It's amazing to me that the WT can so easily take prophecies that apply to the nation of Israel and apply all of them to our future. Some of the Hebrew Scriptures are obvious prophecies about the Messiah, but so much of what is there has fulfillment with the nation of Israel, especially during Solomon's reign. I found it interesting that the Watchtower, April 15, 2000 "Making All Things New - As Foretold", deals with Isaiah 65, showing an initial fulfillment with Israel. It told how the "new heavens and new earth", represented a new society in the Jewish homeland, that they had a "new system of things", and the "new heavens" were Zerubbabel, a decendant of David. Following this information it quotes 2 Pet 3:13 about the new heavens and earth, being in our future, but Paul, in 2 Cor 5:17 said that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away, look! new things have come into existence". I believe he is talking about believers in Christ and their relationship with him, then and now. I think to use 2 Peter as a basis for all the prophecies of the Hebrew Scriptures having a literal fulfillment in a "paradise" is really stretching things.

and, maybe i did that for a little while.. but, i have been on a mission to take my life back from those rotten sobs.

We've been away from the KH for over four years. Never did receive a phone call, although someone called and didn't leave a message (caller ID). There have been "apostate" rumors for several years, but to my knowledge we aren't "officially" out. My mother told my son I tried to talk to one of her friends the other day and they were offended. She told them we weren't DF'd or anything like that, so why shouldn't I talk to them. I make it a point to say "hello" to all I see, with a big smile, asking how they're doing and telling them I'm doing just great. It makes for some funny facial expressions, when we're suppossed to be "gnashing our teeth" and "weeping" for leaving. I've decided not to "play their games" and even when we do get the "axe" I'll do the same. I must say, I have a much closer relationship with Jehovah, and now with Jesus also, something I really can't say I had before "studying" the Bible. I'm so grateful I found out the truth, about the "truth."

Valuable Comment on Documentary re: Babylonian Records

was watching a awesome program last night called solar max on cable.

it is a imax film about the solar system.

they made a comment that i quickly wrote down, "the babylonians records are so accurate that they use them today to correct computer programs.

I too saw that program about the sun. I was surprised when they mentioned the Babylonian tablets, their astronomical readings etc. and how accurate they were. Just one more bit of information to prove "secular" sources are something very valuable.

with this information from graysons' book " assyrian and babylonian chronicles" grayson 1975. i will be able to show my step father (elder) the contradictions and misquotings of the wt.. btw during my 2.5 years of studying with him(stepdad) i really held his feet to the fire on 607 so much so that he actually went on line and ordered graysons' book that the insight book quotes.. and during one of our studies he opened it and was disapointed to say the least.. so i would love to have this information on hand for a little chit-chat about the wt misuse of graysons work.

the specific scan would be from graysons' assyrian and babylonian chronicles 1975 page 100 and 102.. any help is appreciated.. ew

It's High Time I Introduce Myself

it's high time i introduce myself.

i feel like i know many of you already, just by daily reading your posts over the last year.

you all have been a support to my husband and i, even though you were not even aware we were even here.

If , however , you take the view that 607 is false and feel this is fatal to JW beliefs , you basically have 2 choices.

1... "Christian" way of life. So you now believe the Trinity is true , immortal soul , Xmas , Easter , numerous other core belies that you were convinced from a study of the scriptures were false , you now have to believe were true.

2.. Secular way of life. Now you have to believe that we all evolved from primeval soup and that God either doesn't exist or is disinterested in mankind. The bible is a load of bunk and we are here for 3 score years and thats it. No purpose , no hope.

Some who post on this site have adopted native American beliefs or worship trees. Have they found a greater truth?

To dismiss JWs over a relatively trivial issue that is still not proven and adopting a completely different belief & worship structure is like divorcing your husband because he came home one night from the pub and (you think) lied about snogging the barmaid and then marrying a serial philanderer , gambler and alcoholic and not believing that your new husband does any of these things. It takes a far greater leap of faith than you would ever have in believing (or at least reluctantly accepting) 607.

Couldn't leave this one alone. Why does everyone seem to think when you leave the WT, you also throw the baby out with the bathwater? My "worldly" sister said she could hardly wait to hear me cuss! I havn't changed! I still love my "father" Jehovah, his dear son, my Lord, my mediator, Jesus Christ, and dearly love God's Word, the Bible. Where would we be without that? In leaving the WT, I've done just as the apostles asked Jesus in John 6:68, "Whom shall we go away to? You have the sayings of everlasting life." I havn't gone anywhere. I've just begun following Jesus (through the words of the Bible), rather than the WT! I realize I really do have a "mediator", and one that doesn't depend on my relationship with a man's organization. There is truly love all around us, and as a JW I never saw it!

This is surely nothing trivial! The lies and deciet are disgusting. And they have proved they'll say and do anything to keep their beliefs in tact. Just being open-minded in reading the Bible, context and all, will really open your eyes. In 58 years, I never once read all the Bible, except for the occasional Bible reading from the TM School. I have finally read the Bible several times, using first the NWT, then various other translations. What a breath of fresh air! When you finally read the Bible to see what it is really telling you, without any pre-conceived interpretations, it makes a huge difference.

Dearest Lady, ;-) the first quote refers to his becoming king over Babylonia, the second quote says that his kingship as a world ruler began in 607 (after the conquest of Jerusalem), so these are two separate evnts referred to in the book.

Greetings According to the book, Nebuchadnezzar had become world ruler at this time (according to secular sources this was in 605/604, his accession year and then his first full year, as his father was still ruler in 607). But Babylon had become a world power, when they took power away from Egypt, not when Jerusalem was destroyed, another 18 years later. If one will but read the context of 2 Chron 35-36; 2 Kings 23-25 and Jere 18-52, you will see quite plainly, Jerusalem was in no position to be telling anyone what they could or could not do. They were subservient to Egypt and then to Babylon. Destroying Jerusalem in 586-587 or as the WT would have us believe, in 607, didn't make Nebuchadnezzar world ruler. He had been for some time. Jerusalem was but a very small part of his empire. The context of the above mentioned scriptures shows Jerusalem and her vassel king time and time again gave treasures from Jehovah's house to Babylon, even the gold doors of the temple, so can you really say they were still in power? As far as I can tell, this is just a "distinction without a difference", a way for the WT to try to make up the 20 year difference in whatever way they can. It shouldn't matter to us what the "book" says, but rather what the Bible itself tells us. When I first started reading the scriptures with my "blinders off" and without any "pre-conceived interpretations" my eyes were really opened. I would suggest to anyone interested in the facts, to first read the Bible accounts. It's really an "eye-opener." You'll think it's a lot to read, but once you begin, it's hard to put it down. I have found Bible reading to be really enjoyable (and I never did before) and so beneficial and comforting. Also, we were referred time and time again to the Kingdom Come book appendix. To read it at first sounds like "it makes sense" so no need to look any further. If you really want the facts, check it out "further". The first two pages are why we could probably believe 586-587, and the last two pages telling you why you shouldn't believe the first two pages. There are a lot of posts regarding this refutation, and worth taking the time to really check out. There is so much more to this than meets the eye, and as was commented on above, there is "everything" at stake for the WT. They must make this date work, at whatever costs, or all their authority structure will crumble. Thanks for listening... Little Bo Peep

The appearance of the dreaded [] brackets...

ozziepost already posted this one in that thread:colossians 1:16,17 they use it here to make it appear as though god created jesus first, then all other things were created through him.

they have the word "other" in brackets.

Over time, as a JW, you don't even see the brackets anymore, and it all becomes "scripture". I did a post this past March on the "New World Translation and Honesty". This was about adding the name "Jehovah" in scriptures that context would have you understand it was probably talking about Jesus. It also dealt with the "non-use" of brackets. There are many, many scriptures where the WT has added words that don't help the English rendition, but actually change the meaning, rather than letting the reader come to his or her own conclusion.

A few of these additions are found as follows: Adding "in union with" instead of "in", at John 6:56; 10:38; 14:10,11,20; 17:21,23; 2 Cor 5:17; 13:5; Col 1:27; 2:6; 1Jn 2:24,27,28; 3:24; 4:4,13,15,16; 5:20. Adding "other" where there is no "other" in, Rom 8:32; Phil 2:9; Col 1:16-20. Adding "all sorts of" instead of "all" at 1 Tim 2:1,4; 2:6 (ft note);4:10; Tit 2:11; 1 Pet 3:17. I have a list of at least another 20.

The problem I see with adding these additional words that are NOT in the Greek, is it takes away our right to read a scripture and come to a conclusion based on context, rather it forces us to come to their conclusions. Now I realize why people would tell us at the doors that we had our own translation of the Bible, and were so leary of reading it.

Rapture...Help needed to explain.

her employer has scared her with thoughts of driving along the highway and taken to heaven, leaving an empty car...accidents...etc, etc.. i looked up the scriptures referenced in the niv, but don't quite know how to answer her.

i'm pretty sure that explanation is not logical, at least to me.

I looked up the scriptures referenced in the NIV, but don't quite know how to answer her. I'm pretty sure that explanation is not logical, at least to me. Could someone help with some answers, or at least some other possible explanations? Perhaps this is one of those things, we'll just have to "wait and see"!

NWT Hebrews 1:6 Bible change Revised 1970 and 1984 editions. Any others?

in the "journey home" series on ewtn, which jeff schwem was on a while back, jeff mentioned a bible change from one printing of the nwt to a later printing of it.

this interested me tremendously, since my j.w.

sister-in-law told me one day that "the nwt bible never changes".

I read your post with great interest. We have been doing extensive research for about four years, and although we'd rather put this all behind us, our children are now asking a lot of questions, so the "search" goes on. I spent all of last evening comparing all of your references in the Kingdom Interlinear (KIT), which the NWT uses; the Emphatic Diaglott, and the Hebrew-Greek-English Interlinear by Jay P. Green. All three are different in a number of instances, and I will follow with a few in just a moment. The KIT, according to the forward, is drawn from Westcott and Hort of 1881. The Emphatic Diaglott is from the Vatican 1209. I found the Westcott and Hort interlinear online at "Online Greek Interlinear", which may be of use to you. I did find that when there was a "deletion", it was because the original manuscripts usually did not have that text, and most modern translations also delete them. The following is what I found on some of your references.

John 1:1= WH says "god was the word", as does the KIT, although in the english translation, it adds "a god". It's interesting, in the forward of the KIT, it acknowledges the Greek had no "a" or "an", but would be added at the translators discresion.

John 8:58= WH reads "I am", just like the KJV.

Rom 14:10= WH says "of the God". ED says the "seat of the anointed".

1 Tim 3:16= WH says "God was manifest in the flesh".

Rev 5:14= WH adds "lives forever and ever" in the English translation, but in the literal Greek, it ends as does the KIT.

Acts 7:59,60= WH reads nearly the same as the KJV.

1 Cor 10:9= WH reads like the KJV.

1 John 3:16= WH reads like the KJV, but has [of God] bracketed.

Col 2:9= WH says it is "dwelling entire the complement of the diety bodily".

2 Tim 2:19= WH reads like the KJV.

Col 1:16= WH reads like the KJV.

John 1:3= WH reads like the KJV.

Acts 2:30= WH reads like the KJV.

Rom 8:34= WH reads like the KJV.

2 Cor 13:14= WH reads like the KJV.

Mt 24:36= WH reads like the KJV.

I was surprised by many of the differences between the KIT, ED, and our Hebrew-Greek-English Interlinear, but was shocked when I read from Westcott and Hort. It was different from the KIT (NWT), even though the KIT says "the main material will be found the original koine Greek text as revised (in 1881 C.E.) by the renowned Greek scholars B.F.Westcott and F.J.A. Hort". My research has shown the NWT to be dishonest in many scriptures, adding many words or changes, without any [brackets].

Watchtower Gives Up Explaining 607 BCE Date!

this is a very important observation, that the watchtower has not tried to explain in print why 607 bce is the year for the destruction of jerusalem for the last 17 years!!!.

all that the watchtower has done over most of the last two decades is to repeat over and over the year "607bce" in its publications as if it is an unquestioned fact!.

the last time an explaination for the year was attempted by the watchtower was in 1988 when the "insight" volumes were published, but since then, no explaination for the validity of the year has appeared in print.. this must mean something, but what?

Just finished talking with our daughter. Told her about the "kings list" from the WT literature you just posted. She has been having quite a discussion with her in-laws. Her father-in-law said he will give her the needed information regarding 607, as he has "connections". We'll see if he does any research. If you look in the current book study book, Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy, page 46, it says, "In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign as world ruler (606/605 B.C.E.), God sent him a terrifying dream." This is in contradiction to page 64 that says, "In the fourth year of his reign (620 B.C.E.), Nebuchadnezzar made Judah his vassal kingdom." Which one is right? I think this would be a good question to ask any JW, since they are studying this book right now. If 606/605 is right, you have the nearly 20 missing years.
